Opponent
Change for Gates’ Debut
Posted: January 10, 2010
His
debut is just five days away and actually looks like it will happen.
But, as often happens, his opponent has changed.
Eddie
Gates was expecting to face DeShawn Smiley but last week came word
that Smiley was out and his replacement would have to shake half
a decade of ring rust although from his record preparation is not
a priority anyway.
The
37-year old Alonzo Scott (0-6) fought, and lost, six times in twenty-one
months from 2002-04. The Milwaukee fighter, who lost all six fights
by knockout – all but one ended in the first round –
should pose little trouble for Gates whose experience has not suffered
a six year lapse.
Gates
will fight this Friday at DeCarlo’s Banquet Center in Warren.
