Eddie
Gates Hopeful for January Debut
Posted: December 27, 2009
After
seven months as a licensed professional, Eddie
Gates is hopeful that his long awaited debut will happen in
the next month.
Gates
reported that he will likely be fighting on the January 15 Four
Corner Productions card in Warren. BoxRec currently shows six bouts
scheduled including Gates. No opponent is yet known.
Gates,
30, trained and fought as an amateur for the past ten years at gyms
mostly in the metro Detroit area. He started under the guidance
of the late John Brown at Coleman Young Recreation Center, one of
three Detroit rec centers that he fought out of.
Moving
out of state, Gates continued to box while living for three years
in Maryland and Arkansas before returning to Michigan to train at
Livonia’s Dynamic Boxing Club and Mickey Goodwin’s River
Rouge gym.
Most
recently, Gates was one of a handful of boxers displaced when Casa
De Boxeo closed for good earlier this month. He believes he may
have found a new home at the Detroit Jungle Gym.
