Dr.
Robin Goodfellow, a retired general surgeon from Albion, was selected
as the outstanding medical commission member, or best doctor. This
is her first honor by the international organization: she was previously
recognized by USA Boxing.
Next
month, she will leave for Azerbaijan, in the Middle East, where
she will receive her award at the AIBA Annual Forum in Baku on December
10. While in country, Goodfellow will also work her third international
competition this year – the President’s Cup. She served
in a medical capacity in both Armenia and Morocco earlier.
Twenty-one
awards will be handed out this year in such categories as Best Boxer,
Best Coach, Best Referee/Judge and several Best Commissions, among
others. Goodfellow, and Texas' Ray Silvas, were the only award winners
from the United States. The medical commission, chaired by Kalamazoo’s
Dr. Charles Butler, was one of three commissions that received awards.
