Shimmell, Harrington Lose to Great Britain's Best
U.S. Team Loses 4-7

Michigan heavyweights Jordan Shimmell and Stacy Harrington lost in international competition as part of the U.S. national team on Saturday.

The two fighters fought in the second of three duals between U.S. and Great Britain elite boxers being held in the United States this year. The October 24 competiton took place on the campus of Saint Louis University in Missouri.

Great Britain comprises the countries of England, Wales and Scotland.

Shimmell lost a 5-3 decision to Great Britain's #1 ranked Stephen Simmons and Stacy Harrington lost to Great Britain's #2 boxer Wadi Camacho by way of a second round stoppage.

World Championships silver medalist Frankie Gomez defeated Scott Cardle on a 9-9 tie-breaker and Ohio fighters Eduardo (Eddie) Alicea and Terrell Gausha won.

Dennis Shimmell, Jordan's father and trainer, reported that scoring of the bouts was lower than normal because computer scoring with only three instead of the usual five judges was used.

The next and final dual takes place in Iowa next week. On October 30, Shimmell will be joined by fellow Michigan boxers Ernesto Garza III – the current U.S. Nationals featherweight bronze winner – and the USOTC’s Trevor Bryan – U.S. Nationals super-heavy bronze winner – as well as Cleveland’s Zeddie Adams. Shimmell’s father and coach, Dennis, will be one of three team coaches for the event.
