Nine Michigan boxers brought home belts from the recent Ringside World Championships (RWC) held in Kansas City, MO.

The prestigious international tournament is held annually and attracted roughly 1,300 amateur boxers from around the globe, according to Ringside’s website. It’s championship belts are highly desired by all amateurs despite its invitational – and not advancing – nature.

Kronk’s Joseph Bonas defeated Gabrial Ayala of Texas at 152 pounds in the 15-16 Open division. For the recent returnee to the sport, it was his second RWC title – he won in 2006 – and his second title in four months having won the state Junior Olympics earlier this year.

Kronk’s Sajed Fradi won over John Martinez of Dallas at 125 lbs in the 15-16 Novice division.

Ernesto Garza III of Saginaw Boxing Club won at 132 pounds, 17-34 Open over Missouri’s Alemeo Carter.

Crown’s Aarkeyse Higdon defeated Matthew Bonne of Manitoba, Canada at 90 pounds in the 13-14 Novice division.

Warriors’ Gabriel Garza defeated fellow Michigan boxer Bruce Martin in the 13-14 Open division at 125 pounds.

William McElroy of Kronk won over Maynard Sterling of Maryland in the 17-35 Novice.

Monayah Patterson defeated Venessa Gomez of Colorado at 125 pounds in the Girls 13-14 Novice.

Claressa Shields won over Texas’ Judith Baltazar at 154 pounds in the Girls 13-14 Novice.
