Second Quarter Senior Mens Rankings Released
Posted: July 17, 2009

The current rankings for the Senior Mens division were compiled by USA Boxing’s High Performance Director Timothy Borkowski and released Friday afternoon.

With multiples boxers in some positions, more than 160 men are included in the latest rankings. Two Michigan boxers made the list, unless boxers at the Olympic training center in Marquette are included, then the number rises to ten.

National Golden Gloves and U.S. Nationals champion Jordan Shimmell is ranked #1 at heavyweight (201 lbs) and 2008 Golden Gloves national champ Ernesto Garza III is listed as #3 at 125 pounds.

Six Michigan boxers made a different rankings list earlier in the month. The latest rankings issued by European boxing fan Michael Smith are not officially recognized and combine senior mens and junior Olympics divisions. Both Garza and Shimmell are ranked identically on both Smith’s and the official USA Boxing list. Current National Golden Gloves champion Erick De Leon is #1 at 132 pounds, a position he will also likely fill when USAB next issues their JO rankings. J’Leon Love, who as of June has begun training for a pro career and will no longer compete as an amateur, is listed at #9 at 165 pounds. Two Michigan boxers make the top ten at super-heavyweight: Craig Lewis comes in at #5 and Kyle McNutt at #9.
