Posted: June 13, 2009
The
2009 national Senior Open Championships was held, for the first
time, in conjunction with the national Junior Olympics tournament
in Denver, Colorado this week.
MGGA's
Jordan Shimmell (201 lbs) decisioned Nicholas Kisner of Maryland
to capture the gold medal just a month after bringing home gold
at the 2009 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Salt
Lake City, Utah. Saginaw's Ernesto Garza III took home bronze after
a box-off win on the heels of a semifinal loss at 125 pounds. Of
the 33 medals awarded, those were the only two that came home to
Michigan. The Great Lakes region (region 5) saw medals go to Terrell
Gausha (gold-165 lbs), Rau'shee Warren (bronze-119 lbs), Eddie Alicea
(silver-152 lbs), Yuandale Evans (bronze-132 lbs) and Zeddie Adams
(bronze-141 lbs).
