Club
Cancellations Negate Cantu Debut
Christian Center is Site of Fight Club
Posted: March 1, 2009
The late notice cancellations by two boxing clubs diminished
the pool of fighters available for the first club show at the Fight
Club’s new Waterford home, causing several planned fights
to be scratched. One of those was the anticipated debut of Angelo
Cantu.
The
Waterford teenager is the son of professional boxer Pete Cantu.
Steven
Masters of Unity Boxing lost his first fight after a bright start
to his amateur career saw two wins recorded in his first two fights.
Debuting Big House boxer Dominique Rocha scored a RSC win halfway
through the first round after a barrage earned Masters an 8-count
and then a wave off from the referee. In a bit of irony, Masters
won his first fight by RSC also.
Entering
the ring for the eleventh time, Antonio “Tony” Rodriguez
lost a decision to Kronk’s William McElroy dropping to a still-respectable
60+ win percentage.
Downtown
Boxing’s Kevin White won a decision over ABAA’s Jesse
Varela while A-Square super-heavyweight Ryan Rawls defeated Richard
Castillo of Unity.
