Fight Shop to Open in Dearborn

Instead of ordering the wrong size boxing shoe or improperly fitting MMA gloves out of a catalog, fighters will now have an alternative way of getting the items they need.

Boxers and Mixed-Martial Artists will be able to walk into a store starting this weekend and buy the equipment and clothing they need – after ensuring the headgear, gloves and shorts actually fit.

The Fight Shop opens this Saturday (Jan 31) at 23920 Carlysle (at Telegraph, between Michigan Avenue and Van Born Road) in Dearborn.

Owner Ray Vipond said the 1,100 sq. foot store – the first of its kind in the area, possibly in the state – will carry a wide range of products and brands, including Ringside, Title, TapOut, Everlast, Nike, Rival, Spiral and Xtreme Couture. “Everything a fighter needs from head to toe,” Vipond said. “Gloves, headgear, handwraps, shoes, t-shirts, mouthguards, you name it.” And, he told Sportssummary, he will beat or match catalog prices with the advantages of trying the item before buying and saving on shipping costs, which Vipond will cover himself.

And for the equipment that is bigger than heavy bags, like cages and rings, Vipond said customers will be able to order more items from a variety of manufacturers right from the store.

The 29-year old Vipond, who previously trained as an amateur boxer at the Dynamic Boxing Club in Westland, is quick to point out that all equipment for amateur boxers, such as gloves and headgear, is both USA Boxing and AIBA-approved.

The store will be open for two weeks before the formal grand opening, scheduled for February 14.

The Fight Shop will be open Monday-Saturday from 10am-8pm. Contact the store at (313) 278-5770 or online at www.thefightshoponline.com
