Ann Arbor’s A-Square Fight Club held its third club show in
just over six months on Saturday. The A-Square Boxing Challenge
III drew an impressive number of clubs despite two other shows in
the metro-Detroit area the same night.
Hamtramck’s
Andriy Stankevych continued to improve his record with a win over
Detroit Golden Gloves champ Brandon Love in a 142-lb. matchup. The
Ukraine-born 16-year old is title-less but has improved his record
with several wins this year and should make a good showing at the
upcoming championships.
Emanuel
Lipscomb of Butzel Recreation won a 152-lb bout over Brighton’s
Alexander Davis.
Casa
De Boxeo’s Zach Shamoun won over Toledo’s Central City
Boxing’s Gary Kenny at 110-lbs.
Jake
Wessel, of Prodigy, won the first 165-lb match of the night against
Lasky Recreation’s Mark Mackinnon while Cleveland, Ohio’s
Eddie Alicia won not only the second over Windsor, Ontario, Canada’s
Rene Avest but also captured the Best Senior Boxer award.
In
one of two female fights of the night, Butzel Recreation’s
Sudana Fowler defeated Katelyn Murphy of Brighton Boxing at 142-lbs.
Albert
Bell of Central City won over Darrion Lawson of FWC in a 110-lb
bout.
A-Square
had three boxers on the 12-fight card with two winning their matches
and best boxer awards. In a female bout at 80-lbs, Jasmine Hampton
was victorious against Dornaisa Blackman of Cleveland, Ohio and
James Taylor won his 70-lb match against FWC’s Eddie Dean.
Hampton won the Best Female Boxer award and Taylor won the Best
Junior/Intermediate Boxer award of the evening.
Butzel’s
Fred Hunter won over A-Square’s Cedric Johnson at 132-lbs.
The
third Cleveland fighter, Brett Simmions, won over fellow Ohio boxer
Blake Schraw of Central City Boxing at 141-lbs.
In
the sole heavyweight match, Lasky’s Covan Graham defeated
fellow Detroit Recreation boxer Michael Harrell of Butzel.
The
host club, opened 17-months ago by Eric McGuire, has already hosted
three well-attended club shows and boasts two JO and two Detroit
Golden Gloves champions.
